Happy Diwali

It’s Diwali today and my very good friend is celebrating it with her family. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights which celebrates the New Year and is India’s most important Holiday. It is a five day celebration which occurs on the fifteenth day of the Hindu month of Kartika and the fourth day of Diwali is the Hindu New Year.

My good friend spent today exchanging gifts with her family, mainly sweets and money and decorating the house and lighting oil lamps.

She was lovely enough to invite us all over to join them which we’re going to do as I think it’s really important for the kids to learn about other religions and festivals. I’m really looking forward to it.

We tried making a traditional Indian recipe of  Badam Katli, but ended up having to buy sweets ot offer instead as ours didn’t turn out very well!  However we did manager to decorate some candles in the spirit of things, we got the idea here.

Happy Diwali everyone!
