Are we nearly there yet?

What a find!

We had a real rare treat last night I have to blog about today; we all went out for a delicious meal. I think Michael had picked up on the fact that I was feeling a little bit worn out and could have done with a night off cooking so we went to try out a new all you can eat indian buffet that has opened up locally. The words “all you can eat” and “Indian buffet” had obviously been tempting Michael since the place opened up a few months ago. Although it looks fairly simple, or even cheap and cheerful from the outside, the quality of food was just amazing, and the price was exceptional; just £5.99 per person.

The dishes were all really good quality and there was a great variety which meant there was plenty of choice for the kids too, who aren’t too keen on overly spicey food. We also had a huge amount of pickles, chutneys and other sauces as well as naan breads and salad. To be honest with you I really couldn’t believe it, for the price especially. If we had wanted to have a take away of that quality and amount it would have probably cost twice what we paid plus it was really lovely to all go out as a family for a treat.

we will definitely be going back!

Fun Space Food!

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing yesterday, I decided to have a space-theme for dinner last night!

As the kids are off school now for the summer holidays, we had fun together making some mini-pizza’s in the shape of rockets and used toppings of peppers and olives to decorate it to look like there were windows on etc. The kids loved them and it was a lot of fun to do. I served it with a green salad but we pretended that it was plants we had found on another planet! We also made “moon rocks” for pudding which were in fact some tasty fruit scones!

I do often wonder if there is life out there… The universe is so incredible I sometimes find it hard to believe that there isn’t some sort of life out there! For now though I will stick to teaching the kids the facts about space; fortunately there is a lot of help in this month’s DiscoveryBox book with a special space theme!

Space fun!

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all had a good weekend. We had lots of fun making our space mission patches for the DiscoveryBox special mission.

The giant foldout in this month’s book has been fantastic and the kids have been really interested in finding out all about space. It’s great too as there has been lots of interesting stuff in the media to mark the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing. I have particularly enjoyed what the BBC has put together about what the moon landings have done for us. It really is incredible to think it has been 40 years…

Number one again?

I think its utterly fascinating to see the impact of downloading songs on the music charts. I think it was wonderful (and totally deserved) that Michael Jackson’s greatest hits album went to number one last week based on downloads. I have read that the bookmakers are predicting him to also be number one in the singles chart also this week due to huge demand for his music right now. Despite the fact it has been years since he has released anything new it is through new technologies and social trends we see such a phenomena and I think it is totally fascinating. I think this new way of doing the charts allows us to see more clearly true trends of what people are actually listening to as opposed to what novelties people have bought into. I do try to be a hip mum and be aware of new technologies so have got quite into downloading songs and am amazed at the availability of hugely diverse types of music online. The kids have loved all the Michael they have heard lately as well as the Putumayo songs I downloaded free from StoryBox. You really are a click away from anything!

As poor Michael only died on Thursday, and by Sunday he already had 6 songs in the top 40, I would be shocked if after a full week of downloading he wasn’t number one again. But now we must just wait and see.

History!

Hello

Thought I’d pop in for a bit before I go to bed. Just watched an episode of the Tudors with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and I have to say he’s definitely cute! I’m pretty sure this show is only popular because of him rather than his acting! But to be fair, there are some moments where I am at the edge of my seat. Seeing this made me glad I wasn’t one Henry’s wives, but it also got me thinking about the history of it all. When I was in school, I loved history and learning about all the different kings and queens that made it. I do hope one of the kids takes a liking to it as well, especially because there’s so much history all around us. Now that school will be starting soon, I know Mia and Fliss will be starting to learn a bit of history and I’m trying to think of ways to make it fun and keep them interested. When I was young, my parents used to do flash cards with me. I definitely think visits to castles and museums throughout the school year would be good.

I know that in the newest edition of AdventureBox has a bit in it about the Tudors, Shakespeare, and even Princess Di, which is linked to a drawing contest. You have to draw the scariest ghost you can and the first prize is a family trip to the Polka Theatre. In the morning, I’ll have a look over it and see if the kids would like to participate. I think it’d be a great way for them to have fun and learn a bit about history. Oh, look at the time! I’m off to bed!

Good Night!
