Are we nearly there yet?

Creative Cooking!

After my freezer clear-out yesterday I was left with a number of unusual ingredients to use up. This included some scallops and prawns, that rather embarrassingly have probably been there since last Christmas! So I typed in the ingredients I had into google for some recipe inspiration and a risotto seemed like a winning idea. So I had a go at it and wow, it was delicious! I should be clearing out my freezer more!

I am going to try and find some more chestnuts this afternoon to make some homemade chestnut stuffing for christmas (I freeze the mix and then defrost and cook on the day). I imagine most of the chestnuts will have gone by now but I thought it might be worth a shot!

Truly the Year of Astronomy

Good morning everybody!

Apologies for my lack of blogging lately; I do like to blog everyday while the children are at school but I must admit that while there are home over the summer holidays it become rather hard to find the time.

We returned yesterday afternoon from a wonderful weekend with my Sister in London. Michael had the opportunity to get lots done over the weekend while the house was empty which was a real bonus to return home to also.

It was lovely to see my sister and she loved having us over as her house is rather quiet these days with her boys being older and living away.

We had a fantastic time at the Science museum on Saturday, and the kids really enjoyed the ‘Cosmos & Culture’ exhibition which shows how astronomy has shaped our world. Having really enjoyed learning about the moon in the latest DiscoveryBox book, I think the trip really brought learning about space alive to the children and if you have an interest in astronomy it is well worth a visit.

We are really looking forward to looking out for the meteor shower taking place later this evening

Right then, I’d better be off to see what mischief the children are getting up to! If you have the chance later, enjoy looking out for the shower!

Busy Busy!

Hello there,

I feel very bad as I have been so busy the last few days I have been unable to blog. The joy of the summer holidays!

As we still haven’t had great weather, sadly we haven’t been able to spend much time in the garden and with 4 children all off school and unable to play much outside I’m afraid its been slightly cabin fever ish! One of the girls had a sleepover last night too, so we had an addition 3 9 year old girls joining us and I have to admit I feel utterly exhausted. It’s proving more and more difficult to keep everybody happy, and we have had a few squabbles this week too.

In order to keep everybody happy and keep the peace I have decided to take the children to London this weekend to visit my sister who lives at High Barnet in the North. I haven’t seen her in ages, and as she is my big sister, her two boys are now at University and both have decided to stay living with their friends and working over the summer. So the exact opposite of me, she has an empty house and will love a bit of chaos! Michael is going to stay at home and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet as he as a few odd jobs to be getting on with that are being put off more and more with the house full.

As the children have really enjoyed learning about the moon and space with the great feature in this months DiscoveryBox book I have decided it will be fun for us all to go to the ‘Cosmos & Culture’ exhibition which shows how astronomy has shaped our world at the science museum whilst we are in London. Plus, it is free entry so will be a great thrifty activity!

Science Museum

Hi,

I think I must be mad! Michael is with the kids today and I’ve chosen today of all days of the week to go shopping for their uniforms! Bonkers I know, but there is method to my madness. You see I can do the shopping so much more quickly without the kids there and Michael wanted to take them out with him, so I just grabbed the opportunity to shop solo. It’s only their school clothes I need to get and I know their sizes so well, I don’t need them there to fuss over pleated skirts of straight ones with me. I’m going to Woolworths for their uniforms, not an obvious choice for most, but the prices are as inexpensive, it would be silly not to. Bearing in mind they’ll grow so quickly and tear things, I don’t want to spend loads on their uniforms.

Meanwhile while I’m doing that, Michael will be having a wail of a time with the kids and a few other families at the Science Museum in London. His work organised a trip for colleagues and their kids at a fantastic corporate rate so there are a whole host of them going by coach. It sounds fantastic, there are loads of hands on activities and experiments for the kids to do, the boys are excited about the Pattern Pod and there are loads of adults around so Michael won’t feel too bowled over handling the kids without me!

I can’t wait to see them later to hear all about it; it should get them in the right mind frame for school too and hopefully curious about science too. I wonder who will be more tired tonight, Mike or me?
